The Deputy King, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, today received the Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity and Youth Affairs, President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, at Riffa Palace. The meeting followed the conclusion of the 2017 IMMAF World Championships of Amateur MMA which was hosted at the Khalifa Sports City last week. The Bahrain team came second overall, winning two Gold and three Bronze medals at the 2017 IMMAF World Championships During the meeting, His Highness Shaikh Nasser introduced the Bahraini winners of the 2017 IMMAF World Championships and the 2017 IFBB World Junior and Master Championships. The 2017 IMMAF World Championships saw a broad range of competitions and attracted over 254 athletes from 51 different countries The Deputy King welcomed the achievements of the winners, and highlighted that this is a unique opportunity to share with the world Bahrain’s significant achievements in sports and youth development. The Deputy King also highlighted that Bahrain continues to build on its rich trading history to attract world-class events across various sectors. The Deputy King went on to recognise the important role the sports sector plays in youth development, adding that the sector is increasing Bahrain’s international standing. The Deputy King extended his congratulations to the winners, while emphasising the role of His Highness Shaikh Nasser and His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS), President of the West Asian Athletics Association and the President of the Bahrain Athletics Association (BAA) in forming partnerships with international sports organisations. The course of the Bahrain Post Open Waters Championship equals the one designed for the swimming contest of the IRONMAN 70.3 Middle East Championship Bahrain, giving the participating athletes the opportunity to test their preparations ahead of the internationally-recognised event. The World Junior Men-Women’s Epee Championships (U20 Men-Women’s Épée) opened today in Bahrain. His Majesty’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa gave the for go-ahead for the tournament, being organized by Bahrain Fencing Association for the second year in a row. Twenty-six countries are taking part in the two-day championship, being held under the patronage of HH Shaikh Nasser. SCYS Assistant Secretary-General, BOC Secretary-General Abdulrahman Sadiq, Bahrain Fencing Association Chairman Shaikh Ibrahim bin Salman Al-Khalifa, BOC board member, Bahrain Table Tennis Association Chairperson Shaikha Hayat bint Abdul-Aziz Al-Khalifa and other officials honoured the top three winners. HH Shaikh Nasser completed all stages of the race within a record 4:27:21 hours’ time as follows: swimming 1:93 km in 31:30, cycling 90.1 km within 2:22, running 21.1 km in 1:28. His Highness competed and won the 27th place among 3,000 triathletes from around the world. HH Shaikh Nasser expressed his gratitude and appreciation of His Majesty the King’s patronage and for supporting His Highness’s participation in the international championship that was His Highness’s real driver and incentive to complete all stages of the race and achievement of this honorable new achievement in harmony with the aspirations of His Majesty the King. HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, hit a new personal record in triathlon competitions after posting a time of 04:57 minutes in the Challenge Mogan-Gran Canaria. Organised by Challenge Company, the event featured an elite group of 500 athletes, with HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, spearheading the Bahrain National Triathlon Team, finishing third in the event. Speaking after crossing the finish line, HH Shaikh Nasser expressed sincerest gratitude and appreciation for the follow-up of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, to the event, stating that HM's support was decisive in motivating the team and fueling its members with enthusiasm to achieve honourable results. It's worth noting that HH Shaikh Nasser was congratulated by HM the King on the occasion of the new personal record HH set during the event. Third Place Besides HH Shaikh Nasser, the Bahrain National Triathlon Team composed of Mikel Calahorra, Nawaf Al Dhaen, Salim Al Dossary, Mohammed Al Qees, Ahmed Al Hajj, Ali Janahi, Hamad Al Muraisi, Jamal Al Dossery and Erik. The event covered a distance of 113km, spread out over three courses including swimming, cycling and running. HH Shaikh Nasser completed the swimming race in 35:3 seconds, while HH finished the cycling and running races in 2:50 minutes and 1:32 minutes respectively. It was HH's first appearance in a Triathlon event held on European soil. In its second appearance of their debut season, BAHRAIN MERIDA Cycling Team raced to victory in the Argentine-based event thanks to sprinter Ramunas Navardauskas, and HH Shaikh Nasser underlined that the team would continue its march towards conquering more races. Commenting further on the result, HH Shaikh Nasser said: "I followed the team during their participation in the race, and I firmly believe in the capabilities of the cyclists, and their expertise. They are ready to make difference in the race, and foremost, capable of reaching the goals we set when forming the team as well as hold the flag of our beloved country high. I am very proud and grateful for this first accomplishment of the team, who shoulder great responsibilities to promote Bahrain and add more accomplishments to its name." The inauguration ceremony was also attended by a number of ministers, Shura Council members, MPs, governors and guests. HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa unveiled the commemorative plaque, signaling the opening of the milestone, which was set up by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The youth hub includes an administrative building, a football stadium, a cultural auditorium, a VIP hall, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, a café and e-library, which is the first of its kind in Bahrain. The milestone which cost BD1.978 million also features a reception hall, a fitness centre, a mind game room, an IT lab and other girl-only facilities. HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa stressed the SCYS-led efforts to enhance youth centres, in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa to promote Bahraini youth and hone their skills. HM the King congratulated HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al-Khalifa on being conferred the Association of National Olympic Committees (Anoc) Medal of Merit for his outstanding efforts at the administration level. The audience which was held at Al-Safriya Palace was also attended by heads of sport associations. The medal, which is the highest honour given by Anoc, is conferred on outstanding administrative personalities in the Olympic work. HM the King commended the achievement of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), which was conferred the Olympic Laurel Distinction, on the sidelines of the General Assembly meeting of Anoc, which was held in Doha, Qatar.
